Sharan L. Levine

Sharan L. Levine is a shareholder in the law firm, Levine and Levine, focusing on practice areas of corporate and business practice, transactional real estate and land use matters, and estate planning. Mrs. Levine represents ombudsmen nationally in government, academia and multi-national and private corporations. Mrs. Levine is a certified mediator providing dispute resolution services.

In her corporate/business practice, Mrs. Levine counsels clients in a wide range of business transactions, frequently representing closely held corporations. She advises businesses on issues such as formation of business entities, drafting and negotiating contracts, operational issues, employment and labor issues, protection of intellectual property and other proprietary rights, and dispute resolution. She represents employees in labor and employment matters.

Mrs. Levine assists clients in all aspects of real property acquisition, disposition, leasing and development, in residential, retail and industrial projects. She has represented individuals and title insurance companies involving title problems and represents individuals in resolving boundary disputes.

In her estate planning practice, Mrs. Levine provides counsel, offering practical solutions to complex challenges of wealth preservation, and various family issues, involving simple wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, power of attorney and designation of patient advocate, as well as helping develop plans to transfer assets from generation to generation and charitable matters.

Her practice counseling ombuds is extensive: advising organizations establishing new obuds offices, helping to assess existing ombuds offices, and representing ombuds individually. She has extensive experience representing ombuds in litgation on issues of confidentiality and practice standards. She speaks and writes extensively on the subject of ombuds, nationally and internationally.

Sharan is certified as a Mediator through the State of Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Sharan is frequently asked by the Courts and by private parties to serve as a mediator in a number of cases. She is available to serve as a mediator for all civil cases.

Mrs. Levine is a member of the American Bar Association, where she served as Chair of the Ombuds Committee of the Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section for four years.

By appointment of the Michigan Supreme Court, Mrs. Levine served as Commissioner to the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners from 1984-1988.

For many years, Mrs. Levine was Legal Affairs correspondent with WMUK,Public Radio in Kalamazoo, Michigan for which she was the recipient of the Wade H. McCree, Jr. Advancement of Justice Award in 1987.

In addition to her membership in the Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section, she has also served on its council, and she is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section and the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan including the Probate and Estate Planning Section, the Real Property Section and Labor Law section.

Mrs. Levine serves on the Board of Directors of the Crescendo Academy of Music and Peoples Food Co-op of Kalamazoo.

She received her BA from Florida Atlantic University in 1976 and her JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1979.
