Anastase Markou
Anastase Markou is an Associate Attorney with Levine & Levine. Mr. Markou practices exclusively in the area of criminal defense, at the trial court level, in the appellate courts, and in Federal courts.
Mr. Markou began his legal career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable John F. Foley 9th Circuit Court Judge. During his tenure as a law clerk, he researched and wrote opinions on a variety of topics in both the criminal and civil fields.
After serving two years as a law clerk, Mr. Markou entered private practice as a sole practitioner focusing exclusively on criminal defense. In 1996, Mr. Markou joined the law firm of Levine & Levine. In addition to defending persons charged with crime in federal courts and throughout the state, Mr. Markou practices in the state and federal appellate courts on behalf of other lawyers and clients. He has argued in the Michigan Supreme Court, Michigan Court of Appeals and before the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Markou is a member of the State of Michigan and Federal Bar Associations. He is past President of the Kalamazoo County Trial Lawyers Association and is the past Treasurer for the organization. Mr. Markou is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He is one of the panel attorneys on the Innocence Project.
Mr. Markou is a 1988 graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn with High Honors. He attended the University of Michigan Law School where he graduated in 1991.
